Santa Claus and Chimneys: Lower Back Pain

We have all heard the stories and seen the pictures of Santa Claus coming down the chimney with a huge sack full of toys. He lifts that sack and hoists it over his shoulder without any problem. He is never hurt.

What extras do your holidays include? Are you climbing up and down a ladder hanging lights? Are you climbing up in an attic to find last year’s wrapping paper and bows? Are you sitting on the floor trying to put a bike together? Odds are your holiday season holds extra chores such as these that will use your back muscles more than usual.

Your holiday season might include extra time to lay on the couch and watch television. Or, you might find yourself spending extra time sleeping in that recliner. Even though you are not lifting and using your back muscles, you are still using those muscles in a way they are not used to.

On top of the change in activity, you might also experience the extra stress of the holiday season with shopping, relatives, or travel. The stress can travel to those back muscles and slow you down during the holidays.

The extra chores, stress, and the extra couch time can cause lower back pain that can mess up your holiday season.

So, before your back starts to tell you about the extra use of muscles during the holiday season, be sure and schedule your holiday chiropractic visit to keep that lower back from hurting. If you are already feeling that tension in your lower back, contact us and let us help you start your holiday season right.
