Finding A Back Pain Specialist Who Thinks Outside The Pill Bottle

Pain is not a bad thing. Although it's uncomfortable, we would actually be in a lot of trouble if our bodies failed to register pain. However, pain is not fun so our quick and natural response is to make it go away. We pop a pain pill or two. Unfortunately, this can create a bad habit of using medicine to mask pain instead of dealing with the source.

It is important to find a Back Pain Specialist that is willing to think outside the pain pill bottle and focus on holistic treatment. While the immediate benefits of pain medicine are nice and make us feel good, they don't always help reach the root of our pain problem.

If you are experiencing back pain the first thing we recommend is to find a specialist.  Please contact us so that we can get to the root of the problem. That being said, there are some strategies that you can use to ease back pain on your own.

1. Change your diet

Our bodies need good fuel to work properly. You don't have to be overweight to suffer from back pain related to poor nutrition. Choosing the right foods can decrease inflammation which can often be the cause of minor aches and pains. In particular, try drastically reducing the amount of sugar you eat and see if your back pain decreases.

2. Exercise

As long as your back pain is not a result of an exercise related injury, get up and move. Take a walk around the block. Enroll in a yoga or pilates class. Form is everything! For the best advice on specific exercises to help pain management, reach out to a chiropractor or physical therapist for help.

3. Change Your Sleep Habits

Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep each night (at least 7-8 hours). On top of that, make sure you are sleeping in the right position. The best position to ease back pain is to sleep on your side with a pillow between your legs, or sleep on your back with a pillow under knees.
